This is a great thread. I've often wondered how my father got drawn into this cult.

If I'm so intelligent how did I get drawn in to it all?
by Lozhasleft ini consider myself an intelligent woman...maybe not strong on the 'common sense' front, but academically i've done pretty well...so...how on earth did i not see through it all when i was studying in the beginning???.
i remember worrying about their 'sales pitching' styles and their arrogance of believing they had the 'truth' ...but still i got involved and became totally immersed in it all.
i feel like i sacrificied our whole family to them, who now shun me.. yesterday, my new son in law, he's a lawyer, asked me how i could have believed it wasnt a cult (topical word this week here) he said he didnt understand how i could have been persuaded to believe it all and trust them with so much and for so many years...... i feel ashamed of myself that i did and that i brought all this upon our family...anyone else relate?.

That's about a 6 hour drive for me. I don't think I could talk my husband into it. He LOVES to fish though.

I need some advice...regarding my jw dads funeral
by happyexjw ini could really do with some sound advice regarding my dad who is a long serving jw and his funeral arrangments.. my dad is in his last stages of cancer and has been talking with the elders about his funeral and with his family.
because a lot of his family are not jw's and that myself and my sister are both disfellowshipped.
he has chosen to have his funeral at the crematorium and hold a memorial at the kingdom hall a few days after.

Can you have a 2nd memorial "service" at his house and invite non-JW friends and family? Then you can play whatever music you want to and say whatever you want to. You even can have a time that you invite anyone that wants to to say something about what they remember about your dad.

Send us a picture of your house in December. My house is pretty lit up at Christmas, too. Lights of all different colors cover our shrubs. 3 Christmas trees. Giant balls hang from the trees in the front yard. LOL! It's fun.

I think you almost have to have been a JW to appreciate COC.

What happens when a elderly dub is put into a care home?
by highdose inspeaking from my experiance i have seen no less than 10 elderly jw's put into old age care homes and promptly forgotten about!.
no visits from their "loving shepards" no vists from their spritual family.
they were left to rot out of sight out of mind.

I have an aunt who has been a faithful and active JW since 1953. She pioneered, hosted the Tuesday night Book Study, and helped out countless down and out JWs during that time.
She is now sick with Alzheimers. Fortunately, she is cared for by her sister and brother-in-law, both JWs. They hire a distant relative(also a JW) to help them.
They live about 1 mile from the KH but she is never visited by anyone from the congregation. The funny thing is that she has no memory of being a JW. her memories are all pre-1953. LOL!
I'm sure her sister and brother-in-law are asked about her when they are at meetings but nobody does anything to help or visit.

Ray's Office
by watson inthis may have been commented on already, hard to keep up on, but i hope that arrangements have been made to look after the research papers, notes, letters, etc, of ray franz.
preservation of his office/works is pretty important, in my opinion.
when reading the tributes to ray on randy's site, barbara anderson described ray's home and office and it just got me thinking... .

I had the same thoughts and questions, watson and slimboyfat. Somebody will need to do the actual work to keep those books in print.
And I was hoping that someone could write the next book that Ray wanted to write but didn't have the energy for. Using Ray's notes, emails, letters.
It would need to be someone relatively young and in good heath.
I hope we hear some more.
